Living with the Oder River: Ecosystem Services for the People of the Region
We aim to gain a better understanding of the importance of the Oder River’s ecosystem services and biodiversity for the people living along the river in Brandenburg and the Lubuskie Voivodeship. We investigate how different groups of residents interact with and value various ecosystem services, and how these values influence their perceptions of, use of, and commitment to protecting the river. In collaboration with Work Package 3 (Promoting the Cross-Border Sustainable Use of Oder Fish Stocks), we are conducting extensive surveys among the general public in both countries, and among recreational anglers in particular, to assess their connection to the river and the benefits it provides, such as recreation, tourism, and sense of place.
In addition, this work package will engage with stakeholders to discuss management implications and to better understand how different managers and stakeholder groups interact with one another. In doing so, we aim to identify barriers to and opportunities for improved cross-border cooperation.
