WP2 – Biodiversity

Habitat Use Dynamics, Biodiversity, and Resilience of the Oder Fish Community

We aim to establish a joint German-Polish database on fish species occurrence across the entire Oder River basin. To achieve this, we are collaborating and exchanging information across borders. We will characterize fish regions, develop reference fish communities, that is, species-specific benchmark conditions for individual river sections, and harmonize fish-based assessments of ecological quality. Subsequently, we will conduct an analysis of fish population dynamics in relation to habitat quality, relevant environmental factors, and river restoration measures. The results for the Middle Oder will be published on the online information platform developed in

The analysis will provide a basis for recommendations on the management and restoration of the Oder River. In particular, we will identify restoration measures that strengthen the river’s resilience to the impacts of climate change and human pressures.
